For these reasons it is up to the people p[osting personal information to exercise caution over what they are writing about themselves and to not get too serious.

SUMMARY:

This week 12 lecture has helped me understand a lot about the social and ethical issues iinvolved with the internet.

TUTORIAL ACTIVITY ONE:

Australian Copyright Council:

Findings from logging on to five websites:

When I logged on to this site the first link I looked at was the information about copyright link. This link is very important to me because when I begin my university degree being able to reference other people's work and not plagiarise will be ctucial.

The other link I looked at was the what we do link. As an undergraduate it is important to know all I can about the organisations who deal with plagiarism and copyright.

TUTORIAL ACTIVITY TWO:

What You Need To Know About Music on the Web:

This site explained the common misconceptions people have when it comes to music and the web.
The biggest misconception is people believing they can download music for free. This is not the case, you have to pay when you want to downkoad songs, it isn't free.

TUTORIAL ACTIVITY THREE:

Plan To Protect Against Attacks On Privacy And Security:

1.Pist very little information about yourself on your personal webpages. Don't mention your real name, birthdate or address only supply the bare minimum
2.Don't post any information about your financial situation on the net
3.Don't post information about any cards or bank accounts that you hold.

SUMMARY:

These three tutorial activities have helped me realise hoe important it is to protect ny personal details whilst I am on the Internet.

READING ONE:

Top 12 Ways To Protect Your Oblibe Privacy:

There are 12 very important measures you can take to improve your online privacy. Three of these measures include:

-Do not reveal personal information
-Turn on cookies in your web browser
-Keep a clean email address,

SUMMARY:

Searching this webdite has given me a clear understanding of the top 12 ways to protect your privaqcy.

READING TWO:

Ethics Ib Computing:

There are many different types of security monitoring located on the computer. Some of these include:Workplace privacy and employe monitoring, CNN career monitoring and technological sewrvalence.

SUMMARY:

This reading has opened me uyp to all the different monitoring types available and how important they are.

READING THREE:

Brown And Michaels Overview of Intellectual Property:

This website talked about how best to protect your personal infornation from identity thieves.

SUMMARY:

This website was very indormative and I will go back to it for informatioin in the future.

WEEK ELEVEN SUMMARY

DATA, INFORMATION AND KNOWLEDGE

Definitions:

Data Characteristics:
-Factual
-Non-Judgemental
-Transient
-Has no intrensic "method"
-Has no intrinsic "value"

Information:
-Summative
-Relational
-Dimensional
-Uncertain value

Knowledge:
-Inferential
-Experential
-Judgemental
-Subjective
-Extremely valuable

Data, Information and Knowledge:

Data:
Data is the first form that the information comes in

InformationL
Information is what is formed when you have built on thae data that you started with and maybe you have asked questions about the data and gained information that way.

Knowledge:
Knowledge is what occurs in the brain after you have processed information and you know it well. It becomes stored in your brain and then you may do further research on that topic to find oiut more about it after this you are considered knowledgable on the subject.

SUMMARY:

This lecture has helped me to better understand what the terms datam information and knowledge mean.

TUTORIAL ACTIVITY ONE:

Definitions

Data:

Data is the first form that information comes in. It is the dimplest form data can be as simple as information in a table.

Information:

Information is a step up from data. Information is what occurs when the data is processed and understood.

Knowledge:

Knowledge is what you have when your vrain has processed information so that you understand it fully and are then able to share your knowledge with someone else.

TUTORIAL TASK THREE:

Understanding The Connection Between data, information and knowledge:

Understanding the connection between data, information and knowledge is vital to university life. The data is what we are first given in simplest form maybe a sentence or a number, we then have to form opinions and share the data so that we have information and then knowledge is what we are finally able to turn into an essay or report.

READING ONE

Data, Information,Knowledge and Wisdom:

What Is Data:

Data is just lines on a page or facts in a table it simply exists and it can exist in any form for example a computer spreadsheet.

Information:

Information is data that has meaning vecause itr has been connected in some form and it now makes sense.

Knowledge:

Knowledge occurrs when the information has finally been made so that it is useful and you can convert it into a useful form.

Understanding:

This is the process where knowledge is read and understood by other people.

Wisdom:

Wisdom is what we gain when our brain has finally processed the information and we are able to translate ir to others.

SUMMARY:

This reading has shown me the importance of data, information, knowledge, understanding and wisdom and how they can all be used.

WEEK TEN SUMMARY

LECTURE SUMMARY:

INFORMATION MANAGEMENT:

Information format is atom based eg books, papers.

Advantages:
-We are able to physically see it
-We know where it is
-Easy to conceal and protect
-Hard for others to copy
Disadvantages:
-Heavy-Physically heavy to carry around if you need to access it
-Expensive-The money for resources is too much
-Inflexible-You can't change it with the touch of a buton it would take ages to physically change.

SUMMARY:

This lecture has helped me to have a better understanding of information management and how important it is with the internet being so big to have the right skills to filter information.

TUTORIAL ACTIVITY:

Is Negroponte's Idea Relevant:

Negroponte's ideas about the internet are extremely relevant today. Negroponte's idea that information is extremely important and it is a necessity for living in the world is more relevant today more so then ever. Today it is important to have information in school and in work, information is important as it is the key to getting a job in life and in today's world people need a good wage to support their family as the world is getting more and more expensive.

SUMMARY:

Answering these questions has helped me to see the importance of information in the past and in today's world.

READING ONE:

Grazing The Net:

The Internet Good Or Bad:

The internet today has become so big and so extensive that it is available in some of the poorest countries so that all kids have access. However is our kids having internet access a good or bad thing. Today kids do all their research and presenting of assignments on the computer and thius is good because they have access to the most high quality information but kids should instead of sitting in front of a computer be outside kicking the ball around.
The internet is good for educational purposes but when kids use it extensively that is when parents have to step in, turn the computer off and send their kids outside.

SUMMARY:

This reading discusses the importance of their being a balance with sitting in front of a computer and other activities in life, it is important that we have balance.

WEEK NINE SUMMARY

LECTURE SUMMARY

COMMUNICATION:

Communication:

Communication today is to a large extent centered widely around the internet and how we communicate with each other today is centered around letters that we type and not words that we speak as was the case 20 years ago when face to face communication still existed.
Communication can take place:
-Between two people
-Between a group of people
-Within a business
-Between a business and different organisations
Communication also takes place within networks:
-Within a chain network
-Circle network
-Wheel network
-All-channe
There are four main types of communication.
These are:
-Synchronous
-Asynchronous
-Place dependant
-Place independent
With synchronous information every party has to take part in the communication for it to be successful. With Asynchronous communication the people take turns and talk seperately not engaging with any other persons.
Cyberspace Place Depending:
With place dependent communication all the parties need to be together in one area so that they can talk and exchange information. This form of communication would not work or be effective if the parties were seperate.

SUMMARY:

We have come very far today from where we were sixty years ago where writing a letter was the only form of communication we knew. Today we simply need to press a button on the phone or computer and we can talk to anyone we like anywhere we like. The main form of commmunication today the internet is a huge leap forward and technology is only going to get better.

TUTORIAL ACTIVITY:

Term Entered:

The term I entered when logged on to GOOGLE was singing as this is an interest of mine. WEhen I entered the term singing i was taken to a list of popular singers and I was given information about their lives and careers.

What I Found:

When I clicked the link on singing I founf information about getting singing lessons and their was a range of singing videos that I looked at.

Benefits Of Podcasts:

1.It is easy to locate information
2.The information on podcasts is extensive
3.Podcasts are quick to locate.

SUMMARY:

This tutorial activity showed me how easy it was to find information on google and I was able to see the benefits of podcasts.

READING ONE:

Guide To Using Email:

Essential Email Etiquette:

Addressing People Properly:

It is important when you write any sort of email whether it be to your friends, your family or your employer in the workforce that you know the proper words to use so that the email is polite and shows that you have respect for that person. If you are writing to someone that you don't know on a personal level or an employer or an associate in the workforce it is important to spell their name correctly and address them with "to" or "to whom it may concern." On the other hand if you are talking to friends or family who know you and whom you write to often it is ok to use words like "hey" and "hi."
Email etiquette is important as the words you use when you write an email show people if you respect yourself and if you respect them.

SUMMARY:

This reading has helped me understand the importance of using the internet and has helped me see how equally important etiquette is in relation to the internet. Internet etiquette shows people that you have respect for them and respect for yourself.

READING TWO:

THE PROBLEM WITH SPAM:

Unsolicited Bulk Email(UBE):

This unsolicited bulk email is the other name given for what is commonly known as SPAM. SPAM is a huge problem that when it gets into the computer causes a huge amount of damage to the computer which then may need to be fixed and which then costs a lot of money.

Problems Associated With Spam:

No Limits:

One of the biggrest problems associated with spam is that there is no limit on how much spam people can actually send out. Up to 1 million spam messages can be posted on computers and then they are stuck there ands it is up to the people who own those computers to fix them.

No Cost:

Another big problem with spam is that it costs absolutely nothing for people to send out on computers so you could send 2 million spam letters and the cost would still be nothing. This is different to other advertising forms on the internet which have to be payed for so they don't get put on computers as much.

Solutions:

Legislation:

The only solution that will work if people want to get rid of spam is direct legislation. Once implicated direct legislation will be able to put expenses on spam that is sent out and ban spam being sent out all together.

SUMMARY:

This reading has helped me to understand what a big problem spam is and how much damage it does when spam makes it's way to your computer.

WEEK EIGHT SUMMARY

LECTURE SUMMARY:

PRESENTING ORAL PRESENTATIONS:

A Practioners Point Of View:

To execute a good powerpoint presentation there are several things that you need to be mindful of and keep constant throughout your presentation. You need to have a tone in your voice that tells the audience you are sure of your topic and what you are saying is the right thing. If you are firm and certain of your topic then the audience will straight away believe what you say and not have any reasons to question you. If you siound uncertain and employ repition of the word "um" then the audience will know you have an unclear idea of your topic and they in turn will have a lack of faith in your presentation and bot believe what you are saying.

Structuring Your Presentation:

All presentations are made up of three parts,
-An introduction
-A body
-A comclusion

This is so that the talk has a clear structure and so that the audience are able to easily follow where the talk is going.

The Introduction:

The introduction that is generally used for a speech has six main components to help grab peoples attention
-Attention getters
-Thesis statement
-Audience adaptation
-Credibility Statement
-Preview
-Transition to body

Body:

The body of a presentation includes:
-The main ideas
-organisational patterns
-Connective devices
-References to outside research

Conclusion:

The conclusion has the all important task of summing up the information of your talk so that the audience understands it.

TUTORIAL ACTIVITY ONE:

READING ONE:

Powerpoint In The Classroom:

Introduction To Powerpoint:

When you give a powerpoint presentation the first thing to do is log on to the microsoft powerpoint site and get a general feel for powerpoint and all the options it offers.

Creating Slides:

The next step to making a powerpoint presentation is to actually create the slides. When you get on to microsoft powerpoint you will see three different options for creating slides:
1.Creating a blank slide
2.Using a template
3.Autocontent wizard.

These three types of slides offer many different options that you will see when you log onto microsoft powerpoint.

Making Changes To Your Powerpoint:

If you are making a powerpoint presentation and there is something you don't like about it you can alter it with a click of the mouse. For example if you don't like the layout of one whole slide that you have created you simply get rid of it by selecting it clicking on it asnd selecting the delete option.

Animation Functions Of A Powerpoint Presentation:

There are many different animation functions that enhance a powerpoint presentation. Such as: Adding pictures, Adding sound, Adding colour and adding motion. All these functions are easily accessed on the microsoft powerpoint page and they will all improve your presentation. However because the range of pictures, sounds and other extras is so extensive it is important to remember that the topic of your presentation and your assignment is more important and not to get too carried away with the powerpoint itself as it is just a prop to aid you in your presentation.

Conclusion:

Powerpoint presentations are very important for assignments and they make all things that need to be discussed exciting and they involve your audience whether they are business executibes or fellow students in the classroom.

WEEK SEVEN SUMMARY

LECTURE SUMMARY:
USING END NOTE:

Citations, References and Bibliographies:

Why Reference?
When you write reports or essays for university and in the workforce you need to acknowledge the words of others that you may use through the course of writing the essay because they are not your own and using them without acknowledging those who wrote them is what's known as stealing or plagiarism. Plagiarism can incur heavy fines and penalties the same as if you were to steal a car or rob a bank so for these reasons you write down the name of the author whose words you have used after you write them to acknowledge that it was their hard work and research that went into forming those conclusions.

<strong>What is Endnote?
Endnote is a program that is a part of Microsoft word. Endnote is used as a referencing format that is automatically locked into the computer. Endnote will automatically put in your references for you when you are writing an assignment ans is a great time saver for something that is worth half your marks.

Endnote Library:
When opening a new endnote library you have to select create a new Endnote library button and then you have to save it. To save an Endnote library you have to use a separate file because endnote libraries have multiple functions.

Entering References Manually In Endnote Libraries:
To enter a reference into an Endnote library select the reference button on the toolbar and select enter new reference. You then have to select which type of reference you wish to enter into the Endnote library as the dialogue is altered according to the reference entered.

Why Use Endnote:</strong>
-Endnote is an efficient system that keeps track of the growing numbers of references stored in the computer
-Endnote can store a number of different types of references it is not just limited to book or online references
-Endnote works in collaboration with Microsoft word
-Endnote is an efficient program that once you get the hang of it university referencing will take place at just the touch of a button.

Governing Principles When Using Endnote:
-Endnote is a program that once accessed will take some time getting used to so have patience and don't expect to get the hang of it straight away.
-Start by using endnote only as a means of tracking your references. Do not begin straight away to store your life's work in endnote because it may not work straight away.
-Make sure that your endnote display is not too crowded as it Will become confusing once you start storing more and more references in endnote.
-Have a hard copy back up of the references you are storing in endnote either on a usb drive or written down and filed away. Although the endnote program may be faster then these back-up methods it is not always a sound guarantee that it is the safest way as computers may contract viruses or programs may be down. For these reasons it is in a person's own best interests to have a hard copy back-up of their endnote library.

Summary

This lecture has helped develop the understanding as to what an endnote library is and how it can be a huge help in your studies.

WEEK SEVEN READING ONE:

"ENDNOTE"

What Is Endnote
Endnote is a format on the computer wherby you can save libraries complete with references so that they can be accessed at your own leisure in the future.
Endnote is also a place where the author of a reference is highlighted. Once your endnote library is set up it is easy for you to access your references and you need to only type them into endnote once. After the initial entering of references you can access them whenever you want unlike having to manually print your references on paper ebery time you do an assignment. The endnote website comprises of two steps that you have to somplete before you can start using your endnote library.

Step One:
The first step is to set up your endnote library where you enter your references and then need only to store them once and they can be accessed at any time you need them. You set up your endnote library by logging on to the endnote site and following the prompts.

Step Two:

The next step to establishing your endnote library is to enter citations into the documents and this is particularly important for people who are writing a thesis or if a student is in their final year writing their final paper.

Building A New Endnote Reference Library:

When you go to create your new endnote library you need to go to the file menu and select "New" then to save your endnote library you need to go to the file menu and select "save".
You should save the library on the same page where your research dociuments are for convienience.

Displaying And Searching:

When you display and search something on endnote it is the process by which put on your library the references that you have used so far. When searching something on an endnote library you would be looking for the feferences that you have previously saved and now need to acess for a piece of writing or any other assignments.

Backing Up Your Endnote Library:

The endnote library system is extremely efficient, however it is important to back-up your library with another library whenever you wish to enter new references to ensure that your old ones are not lost. It is not worth it to have 20 references saved and then you put in one new one forgetting to back-up the others which are then all lost because you haven't taken the time to create a back-up library.
The endnote library is a great invention that saves time and makes certain that references are of the highest quality.

SUMMARY:

This reading has explained the importance of endnote libraries and what measures need to be taken to ensure that your library stays safe and the information is still there.

READING TWO

Some Additional Endnote Help:

Downloads:

-Program updates and patches
-Outdate styles
-Database conversions
-Endnote termlistsI

System Requirements And Compatability Information:

The system requirements for endnote include videos showing you how to use endnote and tip sheets explaining the key features contained in endnote libraries.
The endnote site has a variety of discussion forums lookingdifferent people all over the world coming together to discuss endnote. The discussion forums may include people who use endbote libraries now and the people who wish to use them but are seeking more advice on how to do this.

SUMMARY:

The second reading has explained endnote systems and how to better understand these systems especiallt when creating an endnote library.

WEEK SIX SUMMARY

WLECTURE SUMMARY:

EVALUATION AND AUTHENTICATION

IQ context the WWW:
Open protocols:
-Quick and easy swapping of information
-Anyone who owns a computer can easily search the web and find information.
-Information on the web is of a higher technological standard then any other form of information accessed before

No control over:
who can post information on the www. This means that information of any calibur can be posted on the web and any person who has no experience with information quality can post what they want on the web.

Not all sites on the www created equal:
There are some sites contained on the internet that are of a higher educational quality than others. For example the smithson site versus wikepedia.
The wikepedia site is of a poorer quality than smithson because everyone and anyone has the luxury of posting what they want on wikipedia wheras in smithson the site is updated by intellectuals who have experience in the field.

Evaluating IQ on the www:
Issues:
-Generally on the web the goals of the site writers and sponsors are not displayed on the site so no one knows what shiould anmd should not be posted on the internet.
-The internet is often used as a base for information of all types ranging from friends talking about the latest goss to intellectuals on the field posting vital information.

Questions:
-Does the information display any bias
-Is the information designed to sway opinions
-Is there any advertising on the page

Currency of issues:
-Publication and revision dates not always displayed on page
-If a date for the page is given it may signify the time at which:
-The page was written
-When the information was first displayed on the web page
-When the information was last updated.

Indicators of quality:
-Sources documented-links, footnots etc.
-Information retyped or forged-why isn't there any links to a published version.
-Links to other resources-biased or slanted.

SUMMARYl

These lecture notes have thoroughly explained web evaluation and authenticication.

WEEK SIX TUTORIAL ACTIVITY ONE:

5 Stratagies To Examine Webpages Efficiently:

1. Know Why You Are Searching The Web:
The web has many different focuses used both for study and leisure time. It is important that when you log onto the web for study you have a focus goal and you stick to that goal for a good hour before taking a break. It is no use going onto the internet for study and then 5 minutes in logging onto facebook when you could have easily located what you were looking for in a book. This would just amount to a waste of your time and a waste of the wide range of educational resources the web has to offer.

2.Check Quality Of Information On The Web:
Almost anyone can post almost anything on the web there are no stops or checks in place to filter what is allowed onto the web. For this reason when you are searching the web for study purposes you may need to check the background of the author to make sure this site wasn't written by someone with no experience in whatever field your study is centered on.

3. Identify Why The Site Was Initially Created:
Before you begin an in depth search of the webpage go back and figure out why it is there in the first place and for what purpose. For example does the webpage serve an educational or social purpose. If you are looking at the page for study purposes and you are gettting distracted because it is a social page get off that page and try another link that may be there to serve study purposes.

4.Look At The Fine Print:
Immediately when you look at a webpage the spelling, grammar and layout of the page tell you immediately whether this page contains information of a high standard or if it was written by someone with no experience.Look at the information is it demanding or simple in language this will tell you what purpose the site serves and if you can trust the person who wrote the site. Anotther good thing to pay close attention to is the date the site was posted. If there is a recent date you know the site is new and fresh and brimming full with information. If the date is pre 2000 then you know the site is rarely updated and therefore is not a good source for your search.

5.Be able to distinguish between webpages and pages found on the web:
When people mention webpages they are referring to information sources such as google and yahoo things that cannot be found anywhere else but on the computer. Pages found on the web include such things as online books and journals things that can be found and utalised in the physical world. Make sure when you are on the internet which of the two you wish to find either webpages or pages found on the web.

SUMMARY:

These stratagies for the first activity have helped show how to properly search the web. It is important to remember these stratagies in the future when looking on the internet.

TUTORIAL ACTIVITY TWO
For the second part of the tutorial activity we had to evaluate the authenticity of two websites and say what indicators show theu are effective.

1.America In The Sixtiesa:
This site contains a variety of authentic information describing america in the sixties as a time of a birth in art and architecture.

Art:
The art in america in the sixties followed much the same poattern of art in the fifties however dlowly but surely americans began to become more and more obssessed with space and this reflected ion their artwork. The idea for artists in the sixties was allowing people to escapoe into the unknoiwn with different pieces of art and let an artists artwork become whatever the viewer wanted it to be.

2.The Almost Great Society In The Sixties:
America in the sixties was a society of many contra\dictions. On one side you had the prospering white americans who were enjoying the benefits of a prosperous society and on the other side you had the african-americans who fell victim to white supremacist group the klu klux clan or kkk. For these victims it was a fight for survival in the sixties with Martin luther king peacefully voicing his support for his people in turmoil which eventuaslly cost him his life.

SUMMARY:

This second tutorial activity has explained what America was like in the sixties.

WEEK FIVE SUMMARY

LECTURE SUMMARY

USING SEARCH ENGINES:

Catagories of information on the web:

There are 3 catagories of information located on the web.
.The free visible web
.the free invisible web
.the paid web

Search Engines:
A search engine is a program bsaed on the web that paruses the web creating indicies from the textual ubformation located on the program.
Examples of search engines include:
-Google
-Yahoo
-Ask Jeeves
-vista
-opera

Problems with search engines:
-Misusing a page by turning it onto a scoring and ranking system
-Adding in links that aren't viable on the computer.
-determining how deep to tunnel through lower ranked pages.

SUMMARY:

This lecture has helped to better explain search engines and some problems you might encounter with search engines.

TUTORIAL ACTIVITY ONE:

Four Tips To Help You Search On Search Engines:

1.Search Plan:

Have a stratagy before you go on the web. Do not just conduct a broad search so you get various URLs have key words and phrases in mind so the search is quick and efficient. For example if your searching on a topic such as childhood obesity don't just write in obesity because the search will be too braud. Type in childhood obesity.

2. Directories:

Use a web search directory to help you locate a wide range of information on one single topic rather than typing in several words and then siving through all the waffle to find information.

3.Search using Meta Tags:

Search engines are now using meta tags this is like html at the front of the site. The use of meta tags means that the writer of the site can influence what it is you search and how much information you are allowed access to for your search.

4.Searching Using Phrases:

Some websites see it as necessary to use inverted commas when you are using phrases, this helps to make the search more efficient. For example if you are searching on a topic such as babies and sleep patterns you need to put into inverted commas "nappies" so the computer knows exactly what you are searching for.

SUMMARY:

This first activity has explained how to search search engines properly and what to look for.

TUTORIAL ACTIVITY TWO:

Online Quiz:

READING ONE:

ROBERT HARRIS WEB SEARCH STRATAGIES:

Information on the web:
e in the most simple form three catagories of information on the web.
.Free visible web-This is all the general web pages such as google and yahoo

.The free invisible webThis is information that is also provided without charge but can only be accessable by going directly to the site where the information is contained.

.The payed web-Commercial sites that libraries subscribe to to access their online journals.

Search tool types:
Like databases search tools also occupy three main catagories.

Search engine:
A search engine consists of the main face that you use to type in a search query. The query is then paired up with a spider program called a bot. The bot goes through the internet getting new sites for the search engine. An example of a search engine is google and yahoo.

Directories:
Catagorised lists of sites that are searched and then eventually selected by editors. This means that the quality of information on these sites is of a higher educational quality as people actually hand pick them.

SUMMARY:

The first reading has explained different search tool types and how to use them.

READING TWO SUMMARY (URL) THE HISTORY OF THE INTERNET (Chapter 4 Search Engines) :

Chapter 4: Search Engines:

This reading looks in detail at what information is contained on the web and how to locate the information you want.
Origins of search engines:
The first search engine began at the Mcgill university in montreal in 1990 and was given the nickname Archie. Prior to the initiation of Archie the way people accessed files was through a painstakingly long process but now with archie people could simply open files and send them to themselves and then browse the files at their leisure. With it's quick information access archie soon became very popular and was the open window for other such sites. Some other such systems inotiated after archie include:
-1991 The gropher system
-WAIS(Wide area information server)

These two systems then made way in 1991 for the WWW and the MOSAIC sites. These two new inventions not only broadened the span of computers and the amount of information they could hold but it also made them user friendly.
It is now very easy to find search engines on the internet just by typing in a single word or one phrase. The internet has come a long way since the invention of Archie in 1990 and now contains a number of high tech functions.

SUMMARY:

The second reading has explained the history of the internet.

READING THREE SUMMARY: SEARCH ENGINES OPTIMASATION FOR COMPANIES:

Search Engine Optimisation:
Search engine optimisation is a process wherby small business computers are regularly checked to ensure that their computers are up to date and that there are not too manyt problems with their search engines. However because these businesses are small when this check up is conducted problems of many variations are always discovered. When problems arise through these searches the search optimisation group provide guidance as to how to fix these problems and what further measures to take to ensure success for the business.

Why Choose Search Optimisation:
Search optimisation are operated based on the needs of the small businesses they check. They take the time to check all your computer programs and help wherever you have gone astray and their vcisits certainly impact on the company and leave results. The search engine optimisation motto is "There is no such thing as try you either do it or you don't".

SUMMARY:

The third reading has explained in a clear and concise way search optimisation.

WEEK FOUR SUMMARY

LECTURE SUMMARY:

USING THE WWW: The internet versus the web:

Before the net the web:
In 1965 a computer in massachusetts was connected to one on california with the help of a low dial up telephone line. This was where the first ideas regarding the internet were evolved.

Defining the www:
The web is a place where all the universal information is stored for everyone around the world to access. A betwork of servers are joined together by an alike protocol.

World Wide Web Abbreviation:
.com(commercal)
.org(organistion tht is non profit.
.net(network primrily ue when com isn't equipped)
.gov(government)
.eu(euction)

SUMMARY:

This lecture has outlined the importance of the computer and shown it's humble origins and how far it has come.

TUTORIAL ACTIVITY WEEK FOUR TASK ONE:
Haggis Hunt Website

Four Clues That Give The Site Away As A Joke Site:

1.
There is no such site in existance called the glenneagles hotel where supposedly the people had won a holiday. When I logged on to the sitethe page couldn't be found showing that the site didn't exist showing that the site was created for a joke.
2.
On the our ghillie:farquar farson site when describing Farquar a joke is made of the Hggis's profile stating that he probably was born and jokes were made regarding his sex. This is furtyher evidence that the Haggishunt site was primarily created to make people laugh.
3.
A joke is made when describing the Haggis poking fun at it's appearance and characteristics. If this was a non-satirical site the words used to describe the Haggis would be more serious and to a large extent more informative.
4.
The site uses the words Haggis season poking fun at what surely is seen as a serious event in the normal day-to-day lifestyle of those people who do hunt real wild animals.

SUMMARY:

This tutorial activity has helped show what is fake and what is real on the internet. By doing the Haggis activitry it has helped explain how to lkook for something that is satirical on the internet and how to look for real information.

TUTORIAL ACTIVITY WEEK FOUR:TASK TWO:
Martin Luther King site:

Thoughts Prior to going onto the site:

When i first saw the words Martin Luther king located on a website i though immediately that this site would contain information on one of two things.
1. I Either the site was going to be an infotrmation site detailing a history of doctor king's goals, his beliefs and values and how he helped the african americans fight for justice based on these values.
2. My other initial idea of what the site would contain was a full version of Martin Luther King's " I have a dream" speech and the details of how he died.

Impressions Of The Site After Searching It:

This site martinlutherking.org was not what I expected it to be. I was expecting the site to be a look at the life of the man who fought for the rights of African-Americans. This site does nothing but slander the name Martin Luther King describing him as a person who prominantly plagiorised other peoples words and made them his own. This site also describes Dr.King as a selfish person who only fought for his own wants, not a selfless person fighting for the rights of his people which we know is the truth. The most disturbing link of this site is the dearh of the dream link. This section looks at the last day of king's life describing him as a man who sat in court and then later " supposedly" drinking and squareing and downing his own race. This is not true and angers me because history tells us for a fact that king died in his hotel room after giving a speech that fought for the rights of African-Americans every step of the way.

Final Summary Of Martin Luther King:

After googling Martin Luther King I know for sure that the martinlutherking.org site is a fake invented only for the benefits of white supremacists who have ficticious ideas of who should be allowed in this world. The numerous sites on google confirmed what i already knew about Dr King through my primary and highschool education that he was a selfless person who fought up until the day of his death for the rights of the African-American people to give them a vote and ultimately mage sure they luived in a country where they were valued just as much as any other man, woman or child.

SUMMARY:

This second tutorial activity has helped show how to look for what is a true informative site on the internet and how to seperate the true informative sites from the ones that don't tell the truth.

WEEK FOUR READING ONE SUMMARY: HISTORIES OF THE INTERNET:

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE INTERNET:

Histories Of the Internet:

The invention of the internet has changed the way people all over the world communicate with each other and the way in which they view the happenings in the outside world. The internet has also revolutionised the ways in which we locate and utalise information for research and work purposes, and the quantity of information we now have access to has also changed. Before the internet the problem was not having enough information to complete research and assignments, now the problem is having too much information and not knowing what and what not to use.

The Beginnings of The Internet:

The first signs that social interactions took place on the computer was realised and documented by J.C.R. Licklider in August 1962. After Licklider there followed a huge number of others who researched further to discover how this new sensation worked and how they could further the technology and speed of the internet.

The first Internet Concepts:

The internet first developed as a program called the ARPANET and it was later renamed the internet. The original plan for the internet was that it would be a location where a huge number of different networks could operate together first starting with the arpanet the process was given the name open-architecture network.
The idea of the open-architecture network was that each website was to be seperately designed and given it's own inter face. Open-Architecture networking was first formulated in 1972 by a man named Kahn. The idea of internet architechture was originmally a part of a program called the packet radio program, however it soon broke off and formed it's own program and at the time the idea was given the name " Internetting". Several attempts were made to launch open-architecture but nono of them could cope with the content so Kahn invented his own program. Kahn invented his own protocol called transmission control protocol/internet protocol(TC/ICP)
Kahn launched his new idea at a meeting in Sussex but the original launch of TC/ICP was not an initial success as many of the programs failed to work. TC/ICP today is working and is very successful.

Expansion Of The Internet:

While TCP was up and running people were running othjer programs on the internet to see if they worked and if they had any popularity with the people. Some sites such as ARPNET and BITNET were there only for the use of scholars and professionals in the field.

The Role Of Documentation

On of the key ideas in the formulating of the internet was to leave it open to the people to have their say and if they weren't happy with the current form the internet was in to add their own websites into the fray. People having their say has become largely popular with the invention of such websites as hotmail and recently such social sites as myspace and facebook.

The Internet And The Wider Community:

The internet is a formation of communities of websites and technologies and has from it's beginning been getting bigger and bigger to what it is today. Today more than 50% the internet is made up of socoial chat sites as well as educational and information sites. The Myspace site alone is the biggest chat site to date following in second place facebook. These sites have expanded from the original hotmail site where the onjective was just to chat online. Now on myspacve and facebook you haver your own personal pages where you are able to leave messages and comments for the people whom you want to see them and you can also post pictures on the sites.

The Commercialisation Of Technology:

The idea of promoting the internet and all it's good points to the public took a lot of work and consideration for how it was going to be done. The most popular way was to incorperate TCP/IP into the internet products. However this didn;t work for the corporations trying to push TCP/IP onto the people. The people found the TCP/IP way of networking boring and a big nuisence so another way of promoting the TCP/IP approach to the people had to be decided. This was dione in 1985 by Dan Lynch. Dan Lynch saw that the lack of information regarding TCP/IP had pushed people away so he set up a three day workshop explaining to the vendors the sterengths and weaknesses of the TCP/IP networking system and what still needed to be done to improve the network.
Thanks to these meetings in which everyone was made aware of the successes and failures of the YCP/IP network the network has now been a huge success for more than a decade and now new and excciting ideas are developing in regards to the commercialisation of the internet.

What Lies Ahead For The Internet:

The internet has come a long way from the TCP/IP program and has survived a number iof drastic changes with the introductions of perasonal computers(PCs) and other new faster programs. However the internet is still growing and changing with it being one of the biggest forms of business and communication nretworks with the inventions of such sites as myspace and facebook. The internet when it first initiated was something people ran away from but it is now something people all over the world have embraced with open arms.

SUMMARY:

This reading has helped explain the importance of the history of the internet. Knowing how it initiated has helped to explain where it is today.

READING TWO SUMMARY: HISTORY OF THE WORLD WIDE WEB(WWW):

The Path Of Computers:

The internet is a phononomom that allows information to be shared and sent from one computer to the next from countries all over the world and this has been made possible with the invention of the world wide web.

The Development Of Computers:

The internet is a huge and wonderful thing that has expanded communication beyond the realms of what anyone imagined. However before you can access the internet you must have a computer from which to access the internet. The first idea of having computers was initiated by a man called Sammuel Morse in 1844. His idea was initiated by electronic impulses and a key and a special code which sequenced impulses to the computer and forced letters tro come up on the screen. You then had to link Morses invention to the invention of the calculating machine with a difference and one such machine was Charles Babbage's difference engine. However this difference engine was a failure and the computer didn't develop further and was not utilised unless there was a war situation and the small technology the computer had opened up was required then.
The computer itself did not have any other major business or social developments until the year 1961 when the company IBM introduced a way for seperate offices in seperate terminals to access the same hardware. This opened up posibilities of computers in different locations to be set up to the same hardware all over the world.

SUMMARY:

This reading has helped to explain the development of computers.

WEEK THREE SUMMARY

-LECTURE SUMMARY: USING ONLINE LIBRARIES AND DATABASES:

Part One: Online Libraries:

Why Use Online Libraries:

Online libraries have a number of advantages that attract people towards them. Firstly as the name suggests they are accesable on the internet which means that people can search online libraries in the comfort of their own homes with a drink in their hand relaxing, rather than getting in the car and travelling to their local library to search through shelves and shelves of books. Secondly online libraries carry the most recently updated online journal articles which once you access therm you can simply print them off.

Disadvantages of Online Libraries:

The majority of the content on online libraries is hidden and unaccessable which means that even if you did access the online library you probably couldn't get hold of any good informnation. Secondly most online libraries are not even accessable ion the internet so you wouldn't even be able to access them.

Types Of Online Libraries:
Online texts
online journals
electronic books
musical
Artwork

Limitations of Online Libraries:

Generally with online libraries only the catalogue is available which means further search
If you want to access information on online databases you have to pay a certain amount to access a certain amount of information. Thirdly online libraries are rarely updated.

Referencing Online Libraries:

Referencing is vital for university life and life in general as it shows that you havn't stol;en someones words as this is theft and can incur serious penalties. To ensure acurate referencing:
Use APA format
create endnote
make sure the quantity is sensible as this is also checked.

Copyright Issues:

Proper referencing of sources
Most libraries have a copyright source
In the end it is your responsibility of ensuring you have done the work properly so as not to incur any penalties.

SUMMARY:

This lecture for week three was extremely crucial in our learning at this university. This lecture taught us how to use the library when we need to search for something for an assignment or find something that is located on the library computers. This lecture has also opened our eyes to the importance of referencing sources and has made us aware of how crucial this will be to our university life in the future.

TUTORIAL ACTIVITY ONE:

Searching the Edith Cowan University Library:

In this weeks tutorial we had to search the ecu online library and find an article on global warming using the online journal of the ecu library. We then had to list 10 useful search tips in detailed explaination that we got off the ecu library.

Search Tips/Functions:

1.Efficiency of the library homepage:
The library homepage as soon as you get on it has all the resources available right there straight away. All the information you need to access is just a mouse click away.

2. Extensive variety of information:
There are a number of online journals or journal databases located on the library that when you click into them and list the keywords of yor search all possible most recently uopdated articles are available to you.

3.Book Search:
Traditionally in the old libraries when computers were just coming of age if you wanted to search for a book all you had to go on was the dewy number and then you had to search shelves and shelves of books. Today with the luxury of online libraries you type in a keyword eg genetics and all the books available in the library on that topic come up and also the dewy numbers. Whether the books are available for hire wil be made apparent on the screen and then you continue the search according to that information.

4.Currency of journals:
The online journals on the ecu library are updated by experts and proffessionals almost always on a daily basis so the information is current.

5. Book Checkups:
Once you've hired out a book you can go back and regularly check up on the due date to make sure you will get the book in on time abnd to see how much time you still have.

6.Search Specification:
When you search for something on the online library you don't need to exactly to the last word specify what you are looking for the range of the library is so large that a few words here and there are enough.

7.Visual pictures of your time:
Once you have hired out books you can go back and see on the online library what they contain inside them in a nutshell if you don't want to search through pages and pages to find information if you are on a time limit.

8.Catagorised searching:
On the online libraries the books and other information are sorted by faculty eg business and law faculty. This makes it easy when you are looking for a book depending on what you study to click in straight away and find books to do with law or communications instead of searching through piles and piles and wasting hours on end tryuing to locate one law book.

9.Online help services:
As soon as you log onto the ecu library you will see the words help services. If you are having trouble you click into this sight follow the links and your problem is solved straight away. This is in contrast to physical libraries where there is rarelty anyone available when you need help and if there is it may take copius amounts of time to solve a problem when you could have been studying for your exams or finishing a crucial assignment.

10. Reference Inquiry:
The ecu online library page has a link that says reference inquiry which helps you if you are having problems with referencing which is a crucial part of university assignments. If a problem arose with your referencing and you were at home it would be easy just to log on to the computer and get help from the online library in contrast to in the olden days when the internet was a mere idea and physical libraries were more popular it would be very hard to get help with referencing in a situation like that.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

SUMMARY:

This first tutorial activity has helped to open the doors of the Edith Cowan University library and has shown us how vital it is to us succeeding at university and making sure all our work is done to a high standard.

TUTORIAL ACTIVITY TWO:

Medline Plus website and it's importance:

The second part of our tutorial for this week was to go on the medline plus site and search all the information on drugs both legal and illegal and then write down who we think would benefit from such a site.

Who would benefit from medline plus:

The three groups of people I think would benefit most from medline plus would be
doctors, the families of people who are ill and the families of those people addicted to drugs.

Doctors:

The medline plus site would benefit doctors when their patients were sick with a disease such as cancer. Doctors would need to research on sites such as metaquest to see which drugs the patient could take to reduce the pain and have the most minute side effects. The metaquest site would contain this information in great detail.

Families of people who are sick:

If someone was suffering from cancer particularly a child then the family of that child would want to find out as much information as possible about the disease and what would help the child suffer less pain. For this reason metaquest would be a good sight because by typing in one key word you could find pages and pages of information on several drugs that could help their chid. They would of course have to run through this with their doctor if they did find a drug to make sure it was safe.

Families of people suffering drug addiction:

When someone is suffering from a drug addiction it is the hardest thing to sit by and know that you are helpless as their family. The first step to doing somethingf before making them go to rehab would be to find out as much about that particular drug as you can and metaquest would be the best site for this purpose. Metaquest has pages and pages of information on illicit drugs such as heroin, canabis, cocaine and many more illegal drugs. It would be the family's first port of call even before going to a doctor or councillor.

SUMMARY:

This second tutorial has helped to show the importance of websites that provide any information in regards to medical issues whether it is to benefit a doctor or to help someone understand what has caused them to be sick or what has caused their family members to be sick. The medline plus site is an extremely informative and helpful site.

WEEK THREE READING ONE:

FINDING WHAT YOU WANT ON THE WEB

Searching a variety of internet sites:

It is important not to stick to internat sites that you are so familiar with that you use to find everything for example google and yahoo. The internet is full to the brim with educational sites and google and yahoo only make up 20% of these internet sites. People are drawn towards google and yahoo because all you nedd to do is type in http://www.google/ or yahoo and the site autimatically comes up and it even stores the site in the computer so you don't even need to type just click on the mouse. Other sites carry a variety of information that is of a higher quality than anything you would find on google. Some of these sites include:

Mozilla firefox
encyclopedia brotanica
wikepedia.
If you search these sites you will find adequate amounts of information on any topic you desire.

Wide Ranging Web Indicies:

The web is a big wide span of information that contains an uncountable number of sites, however the fact remains that google is just too popular and that it is too widely used particularly by the teenage population when wanting to find information for any other sites to be used. The fact that it is easily accessable does not stack in favour of the other sites either.

Searching Well:

To search the web well you have to put in a number of long hours and even then it is still hard to find sitews with any educational value. However their are those sites with a wide variety of information that are easily accessed.

SUMMARY:

This activity has opened succeeded in showing how big the web is and how much information it contains. It is important to know how to properly search the web do you can find things quickly.

WEEK THREE READING TWO BARE BONES LESSON 7:

BASIC SEARCH TIPS:

Plus and minus:
When searching for something on the web it is important to type in the plus and minus signs to show whether you want to include or exclude words. This makes the search a lot easier.

Use of Quotation mark:
Ue o quottion markss like these('' '') ensure ng tht the phre you are searching for appears in the computer exactly how it is written on paper. These simple signs save an enormous amount of time.

Find Command:
When searching use the find key and you will find the topic straight away.

SUMMARY:

This final reading for week three has helped in clearly showing how to search the web when it is essential that we find something.

WEEK TWO SUMMARY

LECTURE SUMMARY:

APPLICATIONS SKILLS:
In this weeks lecture we opened with four questions regarding how much we know and have learnt so far in regards to computers. The lecturer then answered the questions and then we talked about application skills. It therefore makes sense that skills in using PCs and their related applications are an essential part of modern society.
Some PC tasks include:
PC TASKS:
-File handling
-word processing
-spreadsheets
-presentations
-Internet access

Applications:
-windows explorer
-microsoft word
-microsoft excel
-microsoft powerpoint
-Internet explorer

SUMMARY:

In the lecture we were taken through a detailed outline of the web through the powerpoint slideshow and we weere introduced to many new sites and applications we had not since been made aware of since university. This lecture summary has also opened us up to the variety of aspplocation skills available out there and how important it is to know those skills.

TUTORIAL SUMMARY WEEK TWO

ACTIVITY ONE:

WORD EXERCISE

In this weeks tutorial we had two main exercises. The first exercise was a word exercise where we had to go into microsoft word and make changes to a piece of writing following set instructions.

ACTIVITY TWO:

EXCEL EXERCISE:

For the second part of the tutorial we had to open an excel document and create a spreadsheet according to the instructions on blackboard.

WEEK TWO READING ONE SUMMARY:

USING COMPUTERS FOR APA TASKS:

Microsoft Word Computer Functions:

Backspace and delete:

The computer keyboard has two delete functions backspace and delete. When using the backspace button you simply direct the curser to the word you want to backspace and then push the backspace button until the word or words are gone. When using the delete button you have to highlight the word or phrase by clicking on the mouse and dragging it across and you will know that it has worked when the word is highlighted in black and then you simply push the delete button and the word will disappear.

Typerface(Fonts):

Font is the style you use when you write something either an essay for school or a report for your boss when you move into the workforce. The font button should already be present on the toolbar and you click the small arrow on the right hand side and scroll down until you find the font you want.

Margins:

Margins used in the APA style are 1 inch all around the paper and they help keep your work in line on the page so that it is there when you print.

Page Headers:

Page headers appear at the top of the page next to the margins and in APA form a page number is automatically marked at the bottom of each page.

Use Document Comments:

When you are writing up an assignment add in a document coment box so that your lecturer and tutor are able to give some feedback on your work and acknowledge your good points and assist you where you have gone wrong. It is also a good idea to add a document comment box so you yourself can honestly comment your own work.

SUMMARY:

Reading one contains vital information for people that are in the computing business or people wishing to go into the computing business in the future. It is important to understand how to use computers for APA tasks as computers today are vital in business if you wish to succeed.

WEEK TWO READING TWO SUMMARY:

GRAPHIC FILE FORMATS:

BITMAP(BMPs):

-BMPs are used to save images in PCs

-BMPs are also useful when wanting to save an uimage and use it as wallpape for your computer.

CompuServe(GIFs):

GIF is the process you use when you want to minimise time saving files over the phone. GIF is also the process you use when you want to display images on screen and show animation techniques. The issue of transperancy of an image is also controlled by the GIF format which entails saving an image on netspace rather than internet explorer this brings the image through in a slow process so quality is controlled.

Joint Photographic Experts Group(JPEG):

JPEG like GIF displays images on the internet, however unlike GIF the JPEG dial through rab is able to retain all the colour of the image so that the image is of the highest quality. However the fault in the JPEG program is that it saves the file by a process of compression so while the file is saving a fraction of the image and even the text are lost so your work is of a good quality image wise but is half finished text wise. When saving in the JPEG format you can specify how fast or slow you weant the file to travel. This is good because it means the higher the compression the faster the image travels but there is a downside because the faster the image the poorer the picture quaslity so it pays to take the time to get an image of a higher quality than to save time and get barely no image at all.

Tagged-Image file format(Tiff):

Tiff is the process used to switch computer files between applications and computer platforms due to the fact that these files ccan be read by mackintosh and ibm pcs. The Tiff file can also transfer images from one file to the other while still keeping high image quality.

Photoshop Document(PSD)

All prior images discussed are flat images which means they are not reliable, the psd format is layered which means that it is of a better quality and is able to support more images. When thinking of layered image format it is like having a picture on a sheet of paper then a sheet of paper with text underneath. Layered images ususlly result as the end product.

SUMMARY:The second reading has clearly displayed the importance of all the graphic file formats available on the internet and how easy it makes operating the computer if you know how to use all those different formats if you use computers in your job or if you are studying computers as a subject at school.

WEEK ONE SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION TO LIFE AT UNIVERSITY:

In our first lecture for the term we began with an introduction to computers, some different programs contained in computers and their mportance in helping us become efficient uni students when we enter our degrees. The first aspect of computers we were introduced to were unit materials contained on the ecu site that would as we enter university life make our study much more easier.

COMPUTER MATERIALS:

The computer materials we were introduced to included the most recent ones used by ECU.
The first one we were introduced to was blackboard.

BLACKBOARD:

Blackboard is the place where students at ecu go to access most of their information. Located on blackboard are our timetables and most importantly our lecture noters which we can access and print off at any stage and our tutorial worksheets which are vital for university if we want to complete all our work to a high standard. Another important aspect of blackboard is the student email. Our student email is where we are sent updates from our lecturers and tutors regarding any changes or updates that we need to be made aware of and also anty other important information from other uni officials regarding announcements about the student guild or any other important information.

The next unit material we were introduced to on the computer was SIMMO.

SIMMO:

Simmo is the place where our uni schedules are located and also useful information regarding the books we require for our courses. On simmo also is information regarding the bookshop and how we get our books.

Another computing application we were introduced to was how to locate student services on the computer. Student services is the place we go to if we are having minor problems and we need assistance.

We were then given a rundown of some non-computing aspects that are vital to university success. The main one we were introduced to was the edith cowan university library.

NON- COMPUTING RESOURCES

THE LIBRARY:

A non-computing resource is the library. In the library you are able to hire out a variety of different books on a wide range of subjects depending on what you study at university or just for some interesting background reading.

The library is the university's largest non electronic resource. The library contains an enormous amount of books that serve a wide range of purposes. The library is the heart and soul of university, however today with the world's best computer technology at our fingers more and more students are drifting away from the library preferring to stay in the comfort of their own homes and be able to access all their work on websites such as GOOGLE. Although upc0004 is centred around comoputer technology, in today's lecture we were made aware that the internet is not always the most reliable source as anyone can add their own information on different topics and some websites are very rarely updated and for these reasons we were advised to always use the library and hard copy books as one of the focal sources of finding information and then if the library fails us to then turn to the internet.

The last aspect of today's first lecture was an introduction to basic computing.

BASIC COMPUTING:

Intoday's lecture we wre introduced to Pcs or personal computers we were told they have become a necessity to function successfully in today's fast pace world. Pcs have become a necessity for
-Business
-our own productiveness as human beings
-leisure- if we want to book holiday's we don't even have to drive to a travel agent we can sit
and book in the comfort of our own homes thanks to computer technology.

COMPUTERS AND STUDENTS:

In today's lecture we were told that as undergraduate students living in the 21st century where knowing how to use the latest tecnology is just as important as breathing it is not possible to not have access to a computer otherwise surviving at university is not going to happen.
We were told that it will take time to become accustomed to using all the programs the computer had to offer and it will be frustrating at first but once we get the hang of using the comoputers they will become our best friends at university and we will be pros.

SUMMARY:

At the end of our first lecture we were told to just work hard at this course so we get accepted into our desired degrees and to enjoy university life as it is a once in a lifetime experience.

TUTORIAL ACTIVITY WEEK ONE:
In our first tutorial activity for the semester we had to set up a blog account where we would spend the rest of the semester recording all our lecture notes and our tutorial activities that we completed a long with readings we had to complete in every lecture. We set up our blog accounts by logging onto www.blogger.com and from there followed the prompts to set up our own personal blogs.

SUMMARY:

The first week of this class has set up the fouindations for the next 13 weeks by setting up our blog accounts.

WEEK ONE READING SUMMARY ONE: PC LUBE AND TUBE:

An Introduction to PC Hardware:

The Most Commmon Problems Are Simple: Backup Your Files:

It is so easy to lose files on the computer as every disk or even normal file will run out. To prevent losing important documents for school or work save them before you even begin writing to an external USB harddrive so incase of losing files you know they are saved and you can access them on your usb.

Malware:

Many computers become the victims of computer viruses and one this happens people go off and buy new computers without even trying to fix the old ones this is not an economical solution. When you buy a computer make sure you buy real software and go home and set uop the comoputer and folow the instructions to install the software so when a virus strikes you can save your well equipped old computer instead of wasting money on a brand new one.

SUMMARY:

This reading one has given an insight into how PCs work and why they are so important to us especially today when technology and being able to use it has become so important.

WEEK ONE READING SUMMARY TWO:

HOW STUFF WORKS:

How PCs Work:

In this day and age everyone's head is bogged in with information regarding compters however no one stops to consider personal computers or PCs. A pc is a general purpose tool built around a microcompressor and a pc has many functions. PCs are general purpose which means that they possess lots of functions. You can use a pc to type in microsoft word, search the internet and play games.

SUMMARY:
Reading two how stuff works is vital to understanding the importance of computers and why we depend on them so much especially in the 21st century. Computers are a necessity in this day and age and understanding them is vital to succeeding in such a modernised world.
